ABIQUIU ARTS COUNCIL NEWS
The Abiquiú Arts Council 501(c)(3) invites the community to the 2026 Gathering of Artisans Mercado, taking place Saturday and Sunday, June 6–7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Northern New Mexico College, located at 921 N Paseo de Oñate in Española, NM, inside the Admin Building.
Now in its third year, the Gathering of Artisans is a juried fine arts and artisan mercado featuring 26 artists and makers from across Rio Arriba County, NM. The event showcases a diverse range of handcrafted work, including painting, jewelry, pottery, fiber arts, photography, metal art, woodwork, mixed media, and more.
The Gathering of Artisans was created to showcase and support the rich artistic talent of Rio Arriba County, NM. By creating opportunities for artists to exhibit and sell their work closer to home, the event helps strengthen the region’s creative economy while providing an accessible and welcoming experience for art lovers, collectors, and visitors alike. Each participating artist has been selected through a juried process, ensuring a high-quality mercado that highlights both established and emerging talent.
This year’s event marks a new chapter for the mercado as it moves to the campus of Northern New Mexico College in Española. The spacious setting offers visitors the opportunity to explore artwork, meet artists in person, learn about their creative processes, and purchase original handmade work directly from the creators. We extend our sincere thanks to NNMC for its generous hospitality and support of artists, arts education, and community engagement throughout Northern New Mexico.
Guests can also enjoy food and refreshments from Lazy Buffalo Trading Co., which will be serving from the college’s campus café during mercado hours.
Admission is free and open to the public. Learn more at abiquiuartscouncil.org/gathering-of-artisans/.
