GSNMT NEWS RELEASE
As 2027 approaches, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is preparing to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 110 years of Girl Scouting in New Mexico. The very first Girl Scout troop in our state began in Santa Fe in 1917, launching generations of leadership, service, friendship, and adventure for girls across New Mexico.
For 110 years, Girl Scouts has represented something powerful: women supporting women, girls encouraging girls, and generations lifting one another up through mentorship, friendship, leadership, and community. The impact of that support has rippled across families, workplaces, schools, and communities throughout our state.
As we begin planning this historic anniversary, we are hoping to reconnect with Girl Scout alumni from throughout New Mexico—including any descendants of girls or leaders from that very first troop.
One of the beautiful things about Girl Scouting is that once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout. Alumni are not only women who spent years in the organization. They are also women who may have participated for only a short time or who fondly remember being a Brownie. Time and again, we meet women who still carry lifelong confidence, friendships, traditions, and skills from their Girl Scout experience decades later.
Girl Scouting has helped shape generations of New Mexico women—leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, volunteers, and community builders. It has shown girls what is possible when they are supported, encouraged, and empowered by other women and mentors who believe in them.
As we honor 110 years, we want to celebrate the stories, memories, and connections that continue to unite women across generations. We encourage alumni and families with ties to Girl Scouts in New Mexico to reconnect with us and share photographs, memories, and stories as part of this celebration.
When women come together, great things happen,
When a community comes together to support girls, even greater things happen.
