On Thu, Mar 19, 2026, more than 60,000 students participated in International Math Kangaroo competition in the USA and over 6 million worldwide! Los Alamos hosted an official center for the Math Kangaroo USA test (at Atomic Learners Academy, 1350 Central Ave, Suite 202). Overall, 12 Los Alamos elementary school students participated in this competition. The official results have just been published! Among all students who passed the test at the Los Alamos location, we have:

  • Two top-20 (13th and 19th) and two top-30 (26th and 27th) rankings (all nationally, ties allowed), with a couple of students falling close to that threshold (31th and 33th).
  • Almost all students scored above 50 percentile among everyone in the US who took the test that day (i.e., top students in the country who are interested in advanced math education)! The top percentiles nationally are 94.1, 88.9, and 81.6, as well as some again very close to the top 20% threshold (78.9).
  • In New Mexico, the state rankings are much higher: one top-1, three top-2, and one top-3 ranks, with another couple of students scoring close to that threshold (two top-4). Essentially, nearly half of all students who passed the test at the Los Alamos location scored in the top-3 at the state level, wow!
  • At the NM state level, 4 kids scored in the top 10%, and several more in the top 20% or close to that threshold.
