May 17 through 23 marks National Public Works Week for 2026. The American Public Works Association announced this year’s theme as “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community”. The Los Alamos County Public Works Department is proud to celebrate this year’s theme that reminds us that public works professionals are motivated to put service at the forefront and their efforts form the foundation of a thriving community.

The Public Works team provides critical services that support our everyday lives. From building, maintaining, and improving public roads and facilities, to providing transit, waste management and recycling services, the Public Works team works hard to serve the community, and their efforts are essential to the quality of life we enjoy every day in Los Alamos County. 

“National Public Works Week provides a great opportunity to recognize the hardworking staff who quietly keep our community running,” said Eric Martinez, Public Works Director. “Whether clearing snow before sunrise, collecting waste, maintaining our roads, buildings, and fleet—to transporting transit passengers or managing complex project, their efforts do not go unnoticed.”
