NEW MEXICO CONSORTIUM NEWS RELEASE
The New Mexico Consortium (NMC) marked its 20th anniversary on Friday, May 1, with a celebratory evening at Sandia Resort, bringing together leaders in science, research, and the local community to honor two decades of collaboration and achievement.
The event, held from 5-9 p.m., was attended by all living NMC CEOs, all current members of the NMC Board of Directors, and many former Board members. Also in attendance were members of the upper administration from New Mexico Tech (NMT), New Mexico State University (NMSU), and the University of New Mexico (UNM), as well as several associate laboratory directors and other leaders from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), along with a wide network of collaborators and community partners. The evening was led by NMC CEO John Engen.
Founded in 2006, the New Mexico Consortium has built a strong reputation for advancing research, innovation, and education by connecting scientists, institutions, and organizations across New Mexico. Over the past 20 years, NMC has supported a broad range of initiatives spanning bioscience, environmental research, space science, and high-performance computing.
“The New Mexico Consortium is proud to celebrate 20 years of excellence in research, collaboration, and service,” organizers shared. “Since its founding, the Consortium has brought together scientists, institutions, and partners to advance discovery, innovation, and education in New Mexico.”
The evening began with beverages and appetizers accompanied by a festive mariachi band, setting a celebratory tone for the first hour of the gathering. Attendees then spent the remainder of the event mingling, reconnecting, sharing reflections, and strengthening the partnerships that continue to define NMC’s mission.
The anniversary celebration highlighted not only the NMC’s accomplishments, but also the enduring relationships that have made those achievements possible. From its close ties with Los Alamos National Laboratory to its broader network of academic and community collaborators, NMC has played a key role in fostering interdisciplinary cooperation.
As it enters its third decade, the New Mexico Consortium remains focused on expanding collaborative research opportunities, supporting education, and contributing to the scientific and economic vitality of the region.
The celebration at Sandia Resort served as both a tribute to the past and a look toward the future, reaffirming NMC’s commitment to collaboration, discovery, and community impact for years to come.
