BY MELANEE HAND
Candidate for Los Alamos County Council
If you’ve lived in our community for a while, you’ve probably heard my name. I’m not just a familiar face; I’m someone who has called this place home for over 40 years. Now, I’m asking for your support as I seek a second term as County Councilor — and I have a message that’s as clear as it is compelling: “Move Forward Hand in Hand Together.”
But what does that really mean? For me, it’s more than a catchy slogan. It’s a way of life and leadership. It’s about rolling up my sleeves and working side by side with neighbors, listening carefully, and making sure everyone has a voice.
“Progress isn’t a solo act,” I say. “It’s a team effort. When we come together, we build a community that can weather any storm and seize every opportunity.”
I believe in creating spaces where people feel safe to speak up and share their ideas — because innovation thrives when voices are heard, not silenced. Whether it’s tackling tough problems with creative solutions or lending a hand during challenging times, my vision is rooted in compassion and collaboration.
Leadership, I believe, isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about making room for the best answers to emerge — by valuing the knowledge and experience of everyone around the table. That means listening to new ideas, embracing new technologies, and balancing the needs of our community with those of the wider region and state.
But perhaps most importantly, I want to inspire ongoing engagement. “Leadership isn’t just for emergencies,” I explain. “It’s about the everyday work of building a vibrant, connected community where people can thrive, enjoy meaningful experiences, and yes, have fun together.”
So, if you’re proud of where you live and excited about what’s next, I want to work hand in hand with you to build a stronger, more resilient future.
Because moving forward hand in hand isn’t just a motto — it’s a promise. Find more information on my Campaign Facebook page at Hand 4 LAC Council. My email is handnhand2026@gmail.com.
