Strong relationships don’t happen by accident, but finding practical help can often feel out of reach. A new conference in Los Alamos is looking to bridge that gap with honest conversations and real-world tools for couples.

Freedom Church Los Alamos will host its first-ever marriage conference, Marriage Unfiltered, on Saturday, April 25, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the University of New Mexico–Los Alamos campus. The event is designed to offer something many couples say is hard to find: honest, practical conversations about real-life relationships.

“This isn’t a perfect-people event,” said Mike Brake, pastor of Freedom Church and one of the event organizers. “It’s for real couples living real life. Whether your marriage is thriving, struggling, or somewhere in between, this is a space to take a meaningful step forward.”

Unlike traditional marriage seminars that can feel overly polished or idealistic, Marriage Unfiltered aims to cut through the noise. The focus is on practical tools, open dialogue, and addressing the conversations many couples tend to avoid.

Headlining the event is Dr. Corey Allan, a nationally recognized marriage and family therapist and host of the widely followed Sexy Marriage Radio podcast. With more than two decades of experience working directly with couples, Allan and his wife Pam are known for their candid, approachable style and their ability to translate complex relationship dynamics into actionable steps.

“Corey brings a rare mix of honesty and hope,” Brake said. “He’s not here to lecture people. He’s here to help them actually make progress. And he is extremely good at what he does.”

The conference will also include interactive elements, giveaways, and optional date-night opportunities following the event, allowing couples to continue conversations in a relaxed setting.

Registration is currently open, with tickets priced at $40 per person or $80 per couple. More information and ticket purchases are available at Freedom Church Los Alamos’s website: https://freedomla.church/marriage

As part of the weekend, Allan will also speak during Freedom Church’s regular Sunday service on April 26 at 11:00 AM. The service will be held at Aspen Elementary and is free and open to the public, making it an accessible option for those who want to experience his teaching before committing to future events.

While this is the first event of its kind hosted by Freedom Church, organizers say their goal is simple: serve the community in a meaningful way.

“We love Los Alamos,” Brake said. “And we know strong relationships make a stronger community. If we can help even a handful of couples communicate better, reconnect, or just feel a little more hope, it’s worth it.”
