Los Alamos Symphony Announces Spring Concert April 18 – A Celebration of American Sound

LOS ALAMOS SYMPHONY NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Symphony invites the community to an evening of vibrant and diverse music at its Spring Concert on Saturday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. at Crossroads Bible Church. This special event is free and open to the public, with donations warmly welcomed to support the Symphony’s programs and outreach.

This season’s concert highlights a dynamic “melting pot” of American music, showcasing a wide range of styles—from cinematic scores to classical masterworks. The program include selections such as Star Trek Into Darkness by Michael Giacchino, Dusk by Steven Bryant, Variations on a Shaker Melody by Aaron Copland, Deep Summer Music by Libby Larsen, Malheur Symphony, Movement IV – Curlew Scherzo by David R. Gillingham, and An American in Paris by George Gershwin. Together, these works reflect the richness, energy, and storytelling traditions of American music.

The concert will be conducted by William Waag, a passionate conductor and music educator in northern New Mexico. He has led the Santa Fe Youth Symphony since 2014 and serves as the Santa Fe Symphony’s Associate Artistic Director of Youth Programs.

In addition to the performance, the Symphony will proudly award scholarships to student
musicians during the concert, recognizing and encouraging the next generation of artists in the community.

Following the performance, attendees are invited to stay for a reception to meet and mingle with the musicians, offering a chance to connect more personally with the performers and celebrate the evening together.

The Los Alamos Symphony continues its mission to bring high-quality live music to the region while fostering community engagement and supporting young musicians.
