Los Alamos Public Schools Supt. Jennifer Guy has written to parents and guardians of students with information about “an incident that occurred off campus recently that involved some of our students and an LAPS visitor on campus”.
“We were notified by the police department of an investigation and subsequent arrest of a 26-year-old male who was charged with assaulting one of our female students off campus on December 10th. The man had been on our campus earlier that day as an approved visitor. We are working with law enforcement to investigate any connection between his presence on campus and the assault,” Supt. Guy stated.
The man, Adrian Ferran, was actually charged with criminal sexual penetration of a minor, not assault, and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Supt. Guy said the district’sunderstanding is that Ferran, “a relative of a student, signed in at the high school as a visitor to a class on December 10, 2025. The visitor had prior approval from the teacher, per the request of a student, to help with a final project.”
She said Ferran’s ID was scanned and cleared through the Raptor system as per LAPS visitor policy and that “he went directly to the class during 2nd period where he worked with his relative on a project”.
“The man was on campus for 42 minutes. The adult male and his relative left campus at lunch accompanied by a second relative and another student. With prior approval from the teacher, the adult returned to the class on campus after lunch to finish the project. He spent 1 hour and 52 minutes assisting on the work during 3rd period. He left the campus for the day at the end of this time period,” Guy’s letter said.
Guy said LAPS was not made aware of any of the actions that took place later that day (December 10) off campus until the police notified us of the investigation.
“We have reviewed our records to ensure that we have accurate information about all of his activity on campus. The adult male was monitored while on campus; school staff actively monitored the area,” she said.
“I am deeply saddened that one of our students was assaulted. We will continue to work with law enforcement as they investigate this situation. Student safety is our top priority. We are assessing our current internal controls regarding visitors on campus including reviewing our visitor policies, reviewing our off-campus lunch policies, and reviewing campus access. We will do our best to assess what we can do to ensure the safety of our students. As we learn more about how to improve safety both on and off campus, we will keep you informed,” the letter stated.
Current LAHS policy requires that all visitors to the school are required to register in the Main Office, wear a Topper badge while on campus, and sign out at the main office before leaving.
“This registration is meant to provide student safety, eliminate educational interruption, and assure orderly completion of educational programs. Those who want to observe classes or meet with staff should arrange their visit 24 hours in advance to ensure that sufficient time is allowed and the visit does not interfere with planned activities,” the policy states.
The policy repeats the requirement that parents/guardians and other visitors who arrive on campus are required to check in at the office.
“They may not go to the classroom to pick up a student nor may they be present in the hallways unless escorted by school personnel by previous arrangement. If a parent /guardian are interested in meeting with a teacher or visiting a classroom during the school day, as a courtesy to the teacher, arrangements must be made at least 24 hours in advance with the teacher and an administrator,” the policy notes.
