LOS ALAMOS PICKLEBALL CLUB NEWS RELEASE
The Pajarito Pickleball Club is celebrating two years of promoting the sport and welcoming players of all ages and abilities in Los Alamos County. The annual meeting is set for Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the White Rock Branch Library, and will include club updates, membership and treasurer reports, information about opportunities to volunteer, and board elections. All are welcome to attend.
This past year the club hosted clinics for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players; expanded indoor and open play opportunities; continued weekly summer competitive events; and added drill sessions for all levels of play. One of the most popular new opportunities has been a series of women’s drill sessions hosted by board member Jodi Smith. Participants have seen noticeable improvements in their play and have enjoyed meeting new players.
In June the club hosted an International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association (IPTPA) Level I Instructor training which drew players from the region and built local capacity for pickleball instruction and coaching. This fall club members supported a community fundraiser for the LAHS Boys Soccer team and were rewarded with a fun day of play and a generous donation. Club funds supported CPR/AED training for 10 community members and the purchase of additional nets for open play.
In addition, club members continue to advocate for improved equipment and amenities. This year Los Alamos County purchased high quality community nets, installed storage boxes at two locations, and added pickleball court markings to an additional court site. Players are especially excited about the construction of four dedicated pickleball courts on North Mesa.
The Pajarito Pickleball Club is dedicated to promoting and advocating for the sport of pickleball and the value of physical, social, and emotional health in the Los Alamos County area.
