The Democratic Party of New Mexico has honored State Senator Leo Jaramillo (D–District 5) with its 2025 Rising Star Award, recognizing his leadership, commitment, and service to the people of New Mexico. Senator Jaramillo proudly represents District 5, which includes Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, and Santa Fe counties.

Since his election, he has emerged as one of the state’s most dedicated public servants, serving as Vice Chair of the Senate Rules Committee and Vice Chair of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislatures’ Media and Culture Committee, while also working to advance policies that honor Northern New Mexico’s heritage and create opportunities for its future.

“This recognition is not about me, it is about the people of District 5 and the community that raised me,” said Senator Jaramillo. “From Española, the lowrider capital, to the State Capitol, I carry the voices, values, and resilience of Northern New Mexico every single day. I am humbled to be named the 2025 Rising Star.”

Senator Jaramillo added that the award reflects his commitment to both preserving tradition and advancing progress.

“Our ancestors fought to protect our language, our land, and our culture. As a legislator, my duty is to honor that legacy while building a future where families in Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and across New Mexico have the tools to succeed,” he said. “This award strengthens my resolve to continue serving with energy, passion, and accountability.”

The Rising Star Award is presented annually by the Democratic Party of New Mexico to an emerging leader whose vision, integrity, and dedication exemplify the future of the Party and the state.
