Honoring Precious Legacies
New Mexico Fight for Life was founded by Ashley Detzel-Roessler after the tragic loss of her husband, Justin Hatfield, to suicide on May 5, 2013. Justin, who had relocated to New Mexico after accepting a position with Pajarito Scientific Corporation, left behind a legacy of kindness and community service.
Through her grief, Ashley discovered a profound calling to support others walking similar paths. New Mexico Fight for Life is her ongoing tribute to Justin and to all lives lost to suicide. Each year, the organization expands its reach, offering hope, healing, and essential resources to individuals, families, and communities across New Mexico.
A Call to Action
New Mexico continues to rank #4 in the nation for highest suicide rates—a heartbreaking statistic we are determined to change. The 3rd Annual Gala Ball is a call to our community, leaders, and supporters to unite in action. By attending, sponsoring, or donating, you are not only honoring those we’ve lost, but you are also directly helping to save lives and foster a culture of openness, compassion, and resilience. We also rank #2 in the nation for teen/adolescent suicides.
