Los Alamos Arts Council Releases Aug. 22 Update On Current Funding Situation

LOS ALAMOS ARTS COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

In just 96 hours, supporters of the arts in Los Alamos raised more than $5200 for the Los Alamos Arts Council. We have over 30 new members, and you sold out our first Tea Tasting fundraiser at Samizdat. Because of our community, our gallery will remain open this month (including our final exhibit of 2025, opening September 5th) and classes scheduled for August are moving forward as planned.

But we’re not out of the woods yet. Your support has helped us keep the doors open until Sept. 15.

While these first few days have been encouraging, the truth is we still need more support to carry us through the fall. If you love Pumpkin Glow, or your kid is excited to be at our after school open studio, we need your continued support.

We met with our contacts at Los Alamos County and they have done everything that they are able to do within the confines of our contract together. This contract can be adjusted in two years, but we have to weather this storm first before we think about that process.

We believe it’s possible, and we believe in this community.

If we can rally together in these next few weeks, we can secure the future of the arts in Los Alamos. Read on to see how you can help. Every year we rely on fundraising, donations, and income off programs in our classrooms, to keep this operation viable. We do this as one of you: members of this community who love this space, these artists, and everything that the arts mean to all of us.

How you can support the Arts Council

Set a recurring donationEvery month, your recurring gift helps open classroom doors, light up community events, and lets us keep the fall events you know and love. Donate today, or go to our website: www.LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org

Buy tickets to our events. Safos Dance Theatre performs October 3, bringing stories of the U.S.-Mexico borderlands to life through contemporary dance. General admission and student tickets are on sale now. We’ve only sold 27 tickets so far – let’s sell out Duane Smith. Find out more on our website: www.losalamosartscouncil.org/safosdance

Sign up for our classes, or get a class membership for SeptemberWe launched monthly memberships so parents can sign students up for every open studio & planned program for September in one click. We have teen and youth programs; five kids in each would help us keep our classes on the books for next month. Check out our classes, or go to our website: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/education-programs

Shop in the gallery during our new gallery hours! Our current hours are Wed 12-6 PM, Thu-Sat 10 AM – 6 PM. Thanks to the support of our community, we are also able to execute our final exhibit of 2025 titled “Caldera Reverie” featuring work from several former and current artists in residence at Valles Caldera. The opening reception will be Friday, September 5th from 5-7 PM, and we hope the show will hang until October 3rd.

Become a member. Memberships are good for a full year from the date of purchase, and feature benefits in the gallery, classes, and more.

Set up a donation through the LANL Employee Giving Program. LANL-TRIAD will match employees’ donations by half – and you can easily set it up! First, go to the LANL homepage/LANL Inside and click Quick Links.
