Dear Editor,
The Los Alamos Arts Council and Fuller Lodge Art Center (LAAC-FLAC), a local non-profit that recently announced its financial challenges due to reduced gallery sales and lower summer camp and after-school enrollment, needs our collective assistance. The LAAC-FLAC is a cornerstone of the vibrant quality of life we cherish, offering everything from enriching classes for all ages to a beautiful gallery that supports local artists. If we value these contributions, it is time for us to step up and ensure its future. The arts are important economic drivers for our local and regional economy.
The financial solution is surprisingly within our community’s reach! A stable operating budget could be achieved with $10,000 in monthly recurring donations. This number is not as daunting as it sounds: it translates to just 200 community members committing to $50 per month. For those who are able, a commitment of $100 per month from only 100 people would achieve the same goal.
While not everyone may be in a position to give at this level, I believe many of us can. There are other ways to support LAAC-FLAC by shopping at the gallery, enrolling in an art class, and becoming a member. These are investments in the creative soul of our town—an investment that pays dividends through art receptions, children’s summer programs, and a thriving cultural hub.
I am making my commitment today. I urge my fellow residents to join me in becoming sustaining members of the LAAC to preserve this essential part of our community. You can learn more at LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org and contribute to our local art and culture here.
