The Rotary Club of Los Alamos was pleased to host New Mexico author and outdoor enthusiast Adam White at their weekly lunch meeting Tuesday, July 22, 2025. White, author of the recently released book New Mexico Summits, captivated members with an engaging presentation on his experiences hiking around New Mexico for his book.

White discussed the unexpected variety of landscapes found across the state’s peaks—from high alpine environments to volcanic fields and desert summits. He shared personal anecdotes and incredible photos, highlighting the unique flora and fauna encountered during his extensive research for the book. A significant portion of his discussion also focused on essential safety protocols for hikers and climbers, emphasizing preparation, understanding altitude sickness, and best practices for navigating the varied terrain of New Mexico.

White is also involved in a non-profit organization with his brother, Waves4All. This program is dedicated to helping students of all abilities learn how to surf and engage in outdoor activities, promoting a love for nature and physical activity beyond the mountains.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos extends its gratitude to Adam White for his informative and inspiring talk. His passion for New Mexico’s outdoors and commitment to safety and accessibility resonate deeply with Rotary’s missions of community service and environmental stewardship.

Next week, our guest speaker will be Jessica Martinez, Director of Policy and Coalition Building at the New Mexico Immigration Law Center. Jessica works to shape state-level immigration policy, strengthen community coalitions, and advocate for the rights and well-being of immigrant families. Her talk will explore current immigration challenges in New Mexico, how policy impacts local communities, and the role of coalition-building in driving meaningful change.

Our meetings are at noon Tuesdays at United Church, 2525 Canyon Rd. Visitors are always welcome. For more information about the Rotary Club of Los Alamos or to learn how you can support Waves4All, please visit rotarylosalamos.org or waves4all.org.
