Girl Scouts Troop 2

Scouts Troop 2 headed out to Colorado for exceptional adventures. At Cris Dobbins, a traditional scout camp, young scouts and adult leaders achieved a lot while having fun too. Our early teen and girls as young as 10 years old were very busy all week long, working on their merit badges – horsemanship, ATVs, climbing, metal working, basketry, knife skills, photography and a lot more. As a part of their wilderness survival adventure, they built their shelter from branches and pine needles and actually slept in it. In the meantime, girls had some free fun, like going on zipline across the valley or relaxing in the pool.

Our highlight, which we adults enjoyed together with our kids, was white water river rafting on Arkansas river. Everybody were thrilled when going through class III rapids and the river wave actually went all over us!

Adult leaders of Troop 2 also participated in their classes. Scoutmaster Brian Haigh completed his training in outdoor leadership skills and Veronika Vaneckova became certified in CPR and wilderness first aid. This was pretty busy week with many challenges and also moments we all will remember forever.

If your kids (girls) want to check out Troop 2, our regular meeting is every Wednesday 7pm at First United Methodist church in Los Alamos. For more details about Troop 2, check out our website https://www.girls-troop2.com/

About Troop 2:
Troop 2 is the Scouting America (formerly BSA) girls troop for Los Alamos, White Rock, and the surrounding areas. We are an active troop with meetings each Wednesday, and at least 1 outing each month. Recent outings include Kayaking on the Rio Grande, Backpacking to Wheeler Peak, Stargazing at Chaco Canyon, and Rock Climbing in the Jemez. We welcome all girls 11-17 (or 10+ with completion of the Arrow of Light).

About Camp Cris Dobbins:
Nestled in the middle of the Black Forest, Camp Cris Dobbins offers sweeping views of Pikes Peak and the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Scouts will have a hard time choosing between the more than 50 merit badges offered here, and will love spending time on the water slides at the outdoor pool, dusting a clay at the Olympic shotgun range, channeling their inner movie star in our Movie Making program, or pretending to be Indiana Jones at our STEM lodge archaeology dig site. The convenience of meals from our dining hall and sleeping on raised wooden platforms in canvas wall tents will allow Scouts to focus on the only thing that matters: their next outdoor adventure!
