COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The 4th of July is right around the corner and Los Alamos County is gearing up for the event! The 4th of July Spectacular will be held on Friday, July 4th at Ashley Pond Park in Los Alamos, from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.
The day of entertainment begins at 4 p.m. with the Los Alamos Community Winds, who have been a staple of the 4th of July and feature many of our area’s best classically trained musicians. Then, we will get the afternoon going with music throughout the afternoon from Syzygy, starting at 5 p.m.
Our headliner, Fortunate Son – A Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute band, will take the stage at 7 p.m. to bring the house down and get the event attendees dancing and singing to their favorite songs at Ashley Pond Park, Los Alamos.
Beginning at 9 p.m. the 4th of July Spectacular will launch the newest attraction of the event, a drone show provided by Sky Elements, which will conclude the event at 9:30 p.m. There will not be a fireworks display this year, due to the location change.
An important item to note for this year’s 4th of July Spectacular Event is that this will function similarly to the Summer Concert Series, given that the venue is the same and it’s a Friday night. Handicapped Parking will be available in the lower Justice Center parking lot, off of Trinity. Additionally, Central Avenue will be closed from Oppenheimer Drive to 15th Street along with the entire length of 20th Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. to prepare for the event. Maps have been created to show road closures and parking locations. This can be found on the 4th of July event website and on the 4th of July Facebook page.
While there is ample parking within the downtown location, parking will not be available in the Los Alamos Public Schools Administration area or the dirt lot located on the south side of Trinity Drive. This is the Drone Safety Zone, and we can’t have any activity within this area.
The Atomic City Transit will be running in support of this event from 3 p.m. – 10:30 p.m and the Sullivan Field parking lot, Jock Lot, and Los Alamos High School main parking lots will be available for event attendees to park in to take the shuttle. Pick-up locations for the shuttle service are Duane Smith Auditorium at the High School, Flint Soccer Field on North Mesa, and the White Rock Visitor Center. Bus schedules and routes have also been created as a reference. These can be found on the 4th of July event website and on the 4th of July Facebook page.
