COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
Community members are invited to join a public gathering to remember the Cerro Grande fire, and the 25 years of unity, compassion and healing that have followed.
The gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Room 110 of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building (1000 Central Ave., Los Alamos). A selection of photographs and memories submitted by the community will be displayed, as well as documents gathered from Los Alamos County Records. All are encouraged to bring their own photographs and mementos, and recall one of the most defining events in Los Alamos County’s history.
Wildland Chief Kelly Sterna will also be present to discuss the Los Alamos Fire Department’s current projects to minimize fire risks.
After the public gathering, the Los Alamos County Council will dedicate a portion of its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 6, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers to reflect on the fire’s impact and the community’s recovery.
Light refreshments will be provided.
