NMDOT NEWS RELEASE

The Rio del Oso bridge on U.S. 84 in Chili will have rotating closures on May 13, 2025, starting at 8:30 a.m. while the contractor raises the bridge to replace bearing pads under the bridge.

The southbound lane will be closed at 8:30 a.m. for approximately 4 hours. Flaggers will be on hand to direct motorists through the open northbound lane.

The roadway will then be completely closed at midday for 30 minutes. A detour will be in place while the closure is active. Northbound motorists can use U.S. 285 to Ojo Caliente and then take northbound N.M. 111 to westbound N.M. 554, which will reconnect them with U.S. 84 south of Abiquiu. Southbound motorists can use the reverse – eastbound N.M. 554 to southbound N.M. 111 to southbound U.S. 285 to Espanola.

The southbound lane will then be reopened, and the northbound lane will be closed for approximately 4 hours. Flaggers will be on hand to direct motorists through the open southbound lane.

The roadway is expected to be fully reopened by 5 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays and are urged to plan travel accordingly. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution in the work zone, follow all posted signs and detours, reduce speed, and stay alert for construction personnel and equipment.
