Art in public places helps to create beautiful public spaces and the Art in Public Places Advisory Board values community input.

Ongoing work being pursued by the Board:

  • The Board voted to not purchase the Jeff Segler painting, “Boys of Pajarito Plateau.” The recommendation to not purchase will be forwarded to County Council.
  • Justice Center Working Group continues to work on scope for art for a Police Officer Memorial.
  • Barranca Homestead Working Group update: The Working Group plans to bring language for a call for art, language to survey local residents, and a budget to the May meeting.
  • Nature Center Art Proposal Working Group soliciting public input to select art for the Nature Center, and
  • The survey for the Betty Ehart Center gate closed. Board is working with the artist to get approval for use of Zia symbol, and
  • Strategic Plan Working Group created a Project Plan form to use on all current and future APPB projects. The Project Plan form will succinctly summarize all projects pursued by the Board.

Funding for the acquisition of art is defined within the Los Alamos County Code, Sections 20-364 and 20-365. Changes to the Art in Public Places Advisory Board funding would require changes to be made to the County Code. Funding sources defined by the County Code:

  • 1% of the budget of any capital improvement projects, whose budget exceeds $20,000.
  • 0.5% of the budget of any road project.
