LDS CHURCH NEWS RELEASE
With summer just around the corner, young men and young women from the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Alamos are coming together to host a community-wide fundraiser yard sale that will take place this weekend to help cover the cost of attending summer camp.
The event will feature gently used clothing, household items, books, toys, and even baked goods. The proceeds will go directly toward helping families afford summer camp registration fees.
The yard sale will take place at 1967 18th St, Los Alamos, NM 87544 with donations being accepted 5-8 pm Friday April 25, and the sale 8am – 12 pm Saturday April 26. Organizers are encouraging the community to come shop, donate, and spread the word.
Some of the youth who have attended in the past shared why it is so important to them. Avery Olsen, who will be a youth camp leader this summer said, “I love going to camp because it’s a special time in the summer that I get to spend having fun, meeting new people, and strengthening my testimony. Camp always leaves me feeling happier, stronger, and more connected to the gospel.”
Hannah Lee, another youth camp leader, added, “I love how we get away from technology, and we have a chance to connect with our peers, with nature, and with God.” Stewart and James Miller appreciate all the different activities they get to participate in at camp such as metal working, shooting guns, and rock climbing. Stewart, who will be a youth camp leader this year also appreciates the opportunity of “serving the younger young men by being their leader.”
Every dollar raised will help ensure that more Los Alamos kids get to enjoy an enriching and spiritual experience this summer. The camp will be held at Gorham Scout Ranch June 2-5.
So whether you’re hunting for a great deal or just looking to support a meaningful cause, stop by this weekend and be part of something special.
