Dear Libby,
Thanks for sending in your letter to the editor last week. It took a lot of courage for you to share your concerns, and we want you to know that your community heard you and wants to help.
Your proposal for a weekly teen movie night at SALA was an excellent suggestion. JJAB and SALA have partnered to make this happen. Every Friday night starting April 25 through May 30 will be Teen Movie Night at SALA for high school youth. Doors will open at 7:30 pm, and teens can hang out in the SALA lobby, purchase pizza from Pi-239 Pizzeria or buy snacks from the concession stand. Teens will be able to make their own Italian sodas for $4. A free movie will be shown each week starting at 8:30. A private showing of the movie Minecraft will kick off the festivities on Friday, April 25.
Additional activities will be available, including Nintendo Switch gaming (free) and virtual reality ($15 for 30 minutes). The lobby will be open until 11:00 p.m. We hope that these Teen Movie Nights are a good start to making our community more inclusive for teens. We will be distributing additional information about the movie nights – like which movie will be shown – so be on the lookout for that.
We also would like to gather feedback from teens about other events and activities they would like to see in town in the future. For that, we invite all high school teens to join us at SALA on Tuesday, April 15 at 4:00pm to share their thoughts. Free pizza and soda will be provided at the feedback meeting.
