LAPD NEWS RELEASE
Safety Town is returning from June 2-6 for all children entering kindergarten in the fall. This free program will be held from 8 a.m. to noon each day at Barranca Mesa Elementary School.
Participating children will engage in hands-on activities, arts and crafts projects, public safety
interaction, and controlled safety situations they may encounter at school, home, and/or in the
community.
Safety Town guides young children through:
Bicycle and helmet safety
Traffic safety while on a bicycle
Intersection safety
Wild and domestic animal safety
Who to contact for emergencies
Building and strengthening self-esteem at school, at home, and in the community
Enjoyment in a safe, well-supervised, and engaging learning environment
LAPD would like to thank both the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation and Los Alamos Century Bank for their generous donations of bicycle helmets for this event.
Safety Town is sponsored by Los Alamos Public Schools, Los Alamos Century Bank, and the
Los Alamos Police Department. More than 800 children have enjoyed participation in Safety Town since the program began in 2015 at the behest of Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone. Some 85 incoming kindergartners graduate from Safety Town in 2024.
