100+ WOMEN WHO CARE NEWS RELEASE
We had a great gathering, dinner and giving evening on Thursday, Feb. 6. Our special thanks to Kristy Ortega of RE/MAX FIRST for being our sponsor. A total of 35 turned out at SALA where we enjoyed outdoor-made pizza, sodas, Mediterranean salad and cookies. Liz Martineau, of the Los Alamos Community Foundation started us off and spoke about the importance of individuals who make up a “community” and elaborated on Kristy as an involved example, before she handed over the MC duties to her.
The three organizations that presented were:
- Del Norte Credit Union’s LUV Foundation (Connie Tucker Nunez spoke about college scholarships and financial literacy programs for youth);
- Los Alamos Little Theater (Seona Zimmerman, LALT President and Artistic Committee chair spoke about productions to be held away from the building during facility upgrades), and
- The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (Jillian Rubio, ED and Beth Sanchez, lead educator and curriculum designer, discussed programs that keep children engaged in learning about and caring for our environment and the importance of education in continuing stewardship).
Additionally, Crystal Quintana from LAPD reported out that Self Help’s November grant is helping people in emergency crisis situations that LAPD comes across.
The Little Theater garnered the majority votes. Both DNCU LUV Foundation and PEEC will be returned to the pool of eligible groups to be chosen from at future events.
If you were not able to attend, but would still like to make a donation, you may do so by making the check to Los Alamos Little Theater, with 100+ Women Who Care on the memo line, and mail to:
