Los Alamos Public Schools is searching for a new principal to take the helm of one of the best high schools in the country. Current LAHS Principal Renee Dunwoody recently announced that he will be stepping down at the end of this school year.
They are looking for a high school principal to provide visionary leadership and embrace the district’s goal for student success in academic excellence, social-emotional wellbeing and civic responsibility. The principal will oversee all aspects of school operations, including curriculum and instruction, school climate, staff development, safety and community relations.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher, principal and instructional leader with a passion for working with diverse student populations and leading by example.

Los Alamos High School currently serves over 1,100 students in grade 9 through 12, and has a full and part-time staff of 150. It has been recognized as the top ranked comprehensive public high school in New Mexico for 10 years. It is currently ranked sixth in the state, and nationally by U.S. News and World Report. It was named a New Mexico Speech and Debate School of Excellence in 2022, and has won numerous state championships in cross country, track and field, swimming and diving, golf, eSports and chess. LAHS has also been honored as the Regional Science Bowl winners.
The high school curriculum is diversified, allowing students to develop an individualized rigorous four-year plan, including Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses, and Career Technology options. Students who desire a different approach may apply to the School of Choice or the Los Alamos Early College & Career Academy programs.
LAPS was recognized as the 2023 AP (Advanced Placement) Small District of the Year by CollegeBoard.
In addition, the school offers numerous extracurricular opportunities, including clubs, athletics and other organizations. More than 72% of all students are involved in at least one club or sport.
