LACROSSE NEWS RELEASE
Exciting news for sports enthusiasts in Los Alamos! A new girls lacrosse program is launching
in Spring 2025, offering middle and high school girls the chance to join a Junior Varsity (JV)
team and experience the thrill of one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Registration is now open at www.laylax.org, and there is no cost to sign up.
This initiative comes as a response to a void in the community. After several years without a
girls lacrosse program, Los Alamos is taking a bold step to revive the sport and provide a fresh
opportunity for young athletes to develop teamwork, leadership, and athletic skills.
Open Call for Volunteers
To make this program a success, we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers who have played girls
lacrosse in high school or college to assist with coaching or mentoring. If you have a passion for
the sport and a desire to give back, we encourage you to get involved and help shape the next
generation of lacrosse players.
Program Highlights:
Who Can Join: Middle and high school girls.
Cost: Registration is free.
Equipment: Rental equipment will be available for participants.
“We are excited to bring lacrosse back to Los Alamos,” said Sarah Birocco, a freshman at Los
Alamos High School who is spearheading the launch. “This program is about more than just playing a sport. It’s about building confidence, fostering friendships, and giving our peers a
platform to shine.”
The new JV team will compete in New Mexico’s growing lacrosse community, this Spring in 2025, offering players a chance to showcase their skills and gain valuable competitive experience. Whether participants are seasoned athletes or picking up a lacrosse stick for the first time, this program promises to be a rewarding and fun-filled journey.
Lacrosse in Los Alamos is available for youth of all ages, for co-ed teams for the youth program
and high school boys. For more information, to register, or to express interest in volunteering,
please visit www.laylax.org or email mattballen77@gmail.com. Let’s bring lacrosse back to life
in Los Alamos and give our young athletes the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.
