New Mexico Wildlife Center Open For Scheduling Completely Free Field Trip Programs For K-12 School Groups,

Corazón, an American Barn Owl, (Tyto furcata) above, was hatched on April 19, 2018, as part of a breeding project in the eastern United States. She was hand-raised by humans to be an educational ambassador for her species. Corazón, named for her heart-shaped face, came to live at NMWC to fulfill her role as an Ambassador Animal later that same year. Cora quickly became a hit, and her likeness has been captured by several New Mexico artists. Photo Courtesy NMWC

NMWC NEWS

The New Mexico Wildlife Center is once again open for scheduling completely free field trip programs for K-12 school groups, thanks to an Outdoor Equity Fund grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division.

Starting now, K-12 teachers, administrators, and other school group leaders can contact NMWC to arrange a free visit to our Center for their students during the spring 2025 semester. This field trip consists of a guided tour and animal encounter. The grant also has funding available to reimburse the cost of bus transportation to NMWC and substitute teacher coverage.

With this grant, NMWC is able to provide more equitable access to wildlife education for all K-12 school groups in New Mexico by removing funding barriers that can otherwise limit some groups’ ability to participate. All kids deserve opportunities to appreciate and learn about the outdoors, and NMWC is always happy to host student groups of all ages and backgrounds. During a field trip to NMWC, students will learn more about New Mexico’s native wildlife, explore topics relating to ecosystems and conservation, and meet our non-releasable Ambassador Animals.

To schedule a spring 2025 field trip for your K-12 school group, send an email to education@newmexicowildlifecenter.org.
