LAPD And LAFD Respond To Plane Crash Tuesday Afternoon At Los Alamos Airport

Nobody was injured when a small plane crashed just before 1:24 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Los Alamos Airport. The Los Alamos Police Department and Los Alamos Fire Department responded immediately with multiple LAFD and LAPD vehicles.

LAPD Deputy Chief James Rodriguez said in a news release that according to the pilot, he took he took off from Los Alamos Airport, circled the area a few times and returned to the airport.

“While attempting to land, a crosswind caught the plane and pushed it off the runway, causing it to come to rest nose down at the east end of the runway. Fortunately, there were no injuries to the pilot. It is currently unknown if there is any damage to the plane or the runway”, Rodriguez said.

The plane did not catch fire and Rodriguez later told the Los Alamos Reporter that the plance will be towed from the scene and LAPD will continue to investigate the incident.

The National Weather service forecast for Los Alamos indicated southwest winds of 5-10 mph.
