The year is 2014. CB Fox is still in business on Central Avenue. Starbucks is right beside it.
There is word that a new business is coming to town. “What’s Boomerang?” people are asking.
1247A Central Avenue is changing. There is paper covering the windows: but people are seen carrying big stuffed fish, clothing, furniture, racks and shelves, and so much paint inside! What are they doing?
Is that a flamingo statue?
The energy is changing on this side of town! The blank side of the building has a new face on it with up-cycled bike wheel flowers, a faux house entrance, flamingoes and joy!
People after talking about the GoFundMe set up to help bring this exciting new venture to Los Alamos. People could donate money and get it back in the form of store credit when the store opened. The community jumps onboard with both feet and more than $6000 startup capital is raised in 6 weeks.
The doors finally opened on November 26, 2014! The community came in droves to experience Boomerang Consignment and Resale! It’s been 10 years since that day and Boomerang and Gaia Gifts (which opened 3 years ago on the same day) are celebrating this amazing achievement with a two-month long celebration including daily give aways and a raffle for one of three giant prize baskets!
Owner, Anna Dillane, says “We are so proud to be here still. To have survived COVID, to be thriving in Los Alamos, and to have the support of this wonderful community is truly a gift. To be voted one of the best consignment shops in New Mexico and to hear the lovely comments every day about what a great shop this is is so gratifying. Also, I am not just a business owner in this town, I’ve lived here for 18 years, I’ve raised my kids here, I own a home here, and I’ve hosted meetups for almost 14 years now! I love this town!”
Dillane invites everyone to stop in and see the changes inside Boomerang. Things change so fast that if you haven’t visited in a few weeks, chances are the place looks totally different. To keep the inventory ever changing and fun, Dillane orders new items when gifts sell out. The gift shop carries brand new souvenir tshirts, magnets, stickers etc, funny socks and tea towels, statues and incense burners, tarot cards, dragons, toys , stuffed animals, and so much more!
The consignment side carries clothing and shoes for every member of the family, housewares, artwork and furniture, antiques and collectibles, and has an entire upstairs filled with used books! When asked to sum up the shop in one sentence, Dillane referred to her favorite customer quote, “This place is like a magical emporium, every corner I turn there’s a new treasure!”
