
Join us in commemorating Veterans Day through the powerful medium of poetry with local author-poet and Armed Forces veteran, Mike Katko. Katko will present poetry of war, honoring the voices and telling the real stories of fallen veterans through the art of poetry. The event will be held on Monday, November 11, from 6-8 P.M. at the historic Hans Bethe House at 1350 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM 87544.
Mike Katko is a dedicated veteran, entrepreneur, and educator with extensive experience across multiple fields. A U.S. Armed Forces Veteran, Mike has worn many hats as a business owner, restaurant entrepreneur, and home builder. His community involvement includes serving as Board Chairman for the New Mexico Instructional Materials Commission and the Board of Occupational Therapy.
In the education sector, Mike brings over two decades of experience as a teacher, coach, principal, and adjunct professor. He has served as the Coordinator of Community Education at the University of New Mexico in Los Alamos. With a master’s degree in Educational Administration focusing on at-risk youth, Mike was also honored with a fellowship from the University of Chicago, where he specialized in public policy related to poverty and inequality.
Mike is committed to social issues, especially the cause of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). He is also an acclaimed author, with two books to his name: Skies and Other Poems and Big Medicine Pretty Water, which capture his passion for poetry and storytelling.
