LAARC NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos Amateur Radio Club (LAARC) has two events upcoming this November:
Friday, Nov. 8 – Regular Monthly Meeting; and
Saturday, Nov. 16 – Boy Scouts Radio Merit Badge Demonstration
LAARC Monthly Meeting:
The regular monthly meeting will be held at 8pm in the Club Meeting Room upstairs at 4017 Arkansas. This regular meeting reviews the state of amateur radio frequencies, repeaters, long distance propagation, and emergency support equipment. Current and upcoming efforts to support amateur radio and emergency response services in Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico are covered as well.
According to FCC registrations, there are a large number of hams in Los Alamos, with many moving in to new jobs at LANL recently. If you’re a current licensee, or just interested in how amateur radio works in general, this is the time and place. We hope to see you there.
Boy Scouts Merit Badge Demonstration:
Amateur Radio operators will be demonstrating HF and VHF radio communications techniques to scouts in pursuit of their Radio Merit Badge at the Troop 22 annual Turkey Roast the afternnon of Dec. 16.
This will take place at the group shelter of the Sportsman’s Club archery range. We will be showing the LAARC emergency communications trailer as well as portable gear and the kinds of antennas required to “reach out” from lower terrain like the Sportsman’s Club.
