LALT NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos Little Theatre is excited to announce the read-through and auditions for the 8x10s (Snappy Name to Come).
The read-through will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4. Auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, and Thursday, Nov. 7. Both the read-through and auditions will be held at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St. Performance dates will be Jan. 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26, also at the PAC.
The 8x10s is LALT’s well-loved short-play festival, held approximately every two years. Eight local, sometimes first-time directors work with scripts by local and regional playwrights stage eight 10-minute plays. Interested actors have many role options to choose from — and those cast have only 10 minutes of lines to memorize.
This year’s selected plays include the following:
- “A Supermarket Adventure,” written by Christiane Bounds and directed by Ashley Horner;
- “An Audience of One,” written by John Gustafson and directed by Pat Beck;
- “Five by Three,” written by Ryan Parker and directed by Patrick Webb;
- “The Explaining Room,” written by Helen Rynaski and directed by Ken Milder;
- “A Victorian Melodrama,” written by Charles Langley and directed by Matt DeSmith;
- “Broadway Bound,” written by Michael Burgan and directed by Kelly Dolejsi;
- “How to Bake Bread,” written by Terry Beery and directed by Stacy Buck; and
- “The Writing Lesson,” written by Kelly Dolejsi and directed by Alex DiBranco.
Scripts are available to study at the reference desk at Mesa Public Library and at White Rock Branch Library. Please note that it is not necessary to read the scripts ahead of time for either the read-through or auditions.
At the read-through, participants will have a chance to read aloud various roles from all eight selected plays. Attendance at the read-through is not required for those who wish to audition. Rather, it’s a fun opportunity to familiarize themselves with the scripts.
At auditions, directors will provide sides, or short sections of scripts, for actors to use. There may also be improvisational exercises. Both novice and seasoned actors are welcome.
