LWV-LA

The community is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Los Alamos as we host the 2024 nonpartisan Candidate Forum on Monday, October 7, at 7:00 PM in the UNM/LA Student Center, Building 2. Come at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the candidates.

Outgoing County Clerk Naomi Maestas will explain the voting procedures.  Kristin Henderson, Chair of the UNM-LA Advisory Board, will explain the UNM-LA General Obligation Bonds question.

Two unopposed candidates will speak and answer questions: Representative Christine Chandler, running for NM House District 43 (the district that includes Los Alamos and White Rock), and Michael Redondo, who is running for Los Alamos County Clerk.

All five candidates for County Council will introduce themselves and answer questions: Republican David Reagor; Libertarian James Wernicke; and Beverly Neal-Clinton, Ryn Herrmann, and Denise Derkacs. As always for our LWV-LA Forums, members of the Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers will be timekeepers.

Finally, don’t forget to consult the LWV Voter Guide for candidates’ responses to questions of interest to our community, as well as information about the four proposed constitutional amendments and the five general obligation bonds, the final one of which is the GO Bond to fund upgrades to UNM-LA.

The Voter Guide will be published in the Los Alamos Daily Post and delivered by mail to every Los Alamos and White Rock mailbox on Thursday, October 3.
