COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
Come and strut your horsemanship at the Los Alamos County Horse Show Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. at Brewer Arena. This event is for all riders to showcase their horse and equestrian talents in Western and English styles. Winners receive prizes such as: t-shirts, buckles, and ribbons.
Age groups:
- Youth: 9 & under
- 10 – 13
- 14 – 18
- Adult: 19 & up
Registration deadline: September 5, 2024
$5/youth class entry
$8/adult class entry
FREE Admission for spectators
Basic Rules:
All classes may be ridden in these types of tack:
- No studs/Stallions
- English, Western, Dressage, and Australian saddles. NO Bareback.
- Bridles may be in any style. No “bit less” bridles. Bosals are OK.
- Bits must be humane as described in AQHA, USEF, USDF or WE. No mechanical hackamores, gag bits, or bumper bits.
- if there’s a question, the judge may be asked before any classes are ridden.
- Speed events are exempt from bit restrictions, except they must be humane and with no evidence of injury to the horse’s mouth or head.
- No tie-downs (except speed events), no martingales, no draw reins, no metal brow bands.
- Spurs are optional but must be humane. Whips are allowed in speed events. However, excessive “whipping” or spurring of any horse will disqualify the rider.
- All Youth MUST wear an ASCI approved helmet in all classes.
- All Riders in over-fence classes Must Wear An ASTM/SEI Helmet. Open riders are encouraged to wear helmets in all classes, but western hats may be used by adults for Ranch Rail, Trail, Ranch Riding, and speed classes.
- No ball caps of any kind.
- No boots or wraps on horse’s legs except in Over Fence and Speed classes.
- Glitter or streamers on the horse are discouraged. Brushed and clean are Encouraged.
