UNITARIAN CHURCH NEWS RELEASE
On Sunday, Aug. 18, Kirsten Hardenbrook, a native of Pecos, NM, will speak at 11:45 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos. The public is invited to attend this unique forum.
Along with her Afghan host daughter and another Afghan student, Kirsten will talk about the current situation for young Afghan women still secretly pursuing an education. Kirsten volunteers for a non-profit that operates an underground railway to extract Afghan girls who have proven themselves academically, and gets them into safehouses in Pakistan. They then match the girls with host American families and scholarships, and coach them on how to pass the F1 Student visa interview, so they can study here in the US.
Kirsten’s 16-year old Afghan daughter and another student will share stories of their journey, inspiring thoughts on leadership, and their hopes for a brighter future for the women of Afghanistan. Kirsten’s 14 year-old daughter Kai will share ways you could help these students if
you would like to. We welcome you to this poignant and heartwarming story of freedom,
education, and leadership.
