Over the past several days, the New Mexico State Police Technical Unit, consisting of the Crime Scene Team (CST) and Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU), has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in responding to a series of critical incidents across the state. Their services have been vital in assisting various law enforcement agencies in investigating and documenting crime scenes.
These specialized agents of the New Mexico State Police bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and technically advanced equipment to communities across the state. They provide this vital service not only to the New Mexico State Police but also to law enforcement agencies throughout New Mexico.
- On July 25, CST responded to a double homicide in Peñasco.
- On July 27, VCU assisted the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office with a tragic incident where the suspect fatally ran over another individual.
- Also on July 27, CST responded to a battery with a deadly weapon incident at a motel in Albuquerque after a New Mexico State Police officer was alerted by a bystander to a motel room where an adult female had been shot in the leg.
- On July 28, CST responded to a homicide investigation in Capitan. The Capitan Police Department had discovered a deceased adult male with a gunshot wound at a residence.
- On July 29, VCU assisted the Las Vegas Police Department with a severe two-vehicle crash. A vehicle making a turn onto New Mexico Avenue from Grand collided with another car, resulting in a fire that trapped a child inside.
- On July 30, CST assisted the Catron County Sheriff’s Office with a homicide investigation at a campsite.
- On July 30, CST responded to an Officer Involved Shooting involving the Laguna Police Department.
Each one of these calls for service represents countless hours of meticulous crime scene documentation, evidence collection, and technical investigation.
