This article is the 4th in a series written by LARSO Director Jacci Gruninger to introduce the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization and its services to the community.
The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization’s (LARSO) Day Out Program is a wonderful opportunity for older adults and their caregivers to embrace positive living in Los Alamos and White Rock. This program is designed for older adults who may not be ready for assisted living but can benefit from socialization, engaging activities, and a supportive environment.
At the Day Out Program, your loved one can immerse themselves in a warm and compassionate atmosphere, where they can connect with other older adults and take part in activities that promote dignity, purpose, and, most importantly, fun! This program is designed to keep older adults engaged and active, providing peace of mind for caregivers who know their loved ones are safe and well taken care of.
We are dedicated to providing a supportive experience at every level. Our staff encourages each member to participate in activities that bring them joy and also invite them to try new experiences. With attentive and thoughtful care, the Day Out staff ensures that every day at our center is an enjoyable one.
Our staff genuinely listens and responds to the needs of our residents and their families, creating a dynamic environment that evolves with the changing needs of our members. Daily activities are tailored to engage the mind in healthy ways through music, art, moderate physical activity, and social interaction, as well as providing a hot meal and nutritious snacks.
Additionally, the Day Out Program offers cost-effective respite for primary caregivers, allowing their loved ones to age in place and avoid costly institutional alternatives. A modest donation of $7 an hour is suggested for our program although no one is turned away due to lack of funds.
Our Day Out facility is licensed by the NM Department of health. The facility is located on the lower level of the Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center. The regular program hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. We also offer home pick-up and drop-off services for Day Out participants through our Transportation program. Please call us at (505) 661-0081 if you would like to schedule a visit and find out if Day Out is the right choice for your loved one.
The Day Out Program at the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization is a true example of embracing life and supporting older adults in living their best possible life.
