“The Science of Tea: Taste, Aroma and Beyond” event Saturday afternoon at Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center was everything it promised to be and more. Despite the amount of caffeine in the six teas presented, the guests were both energized and relaxed as they listened to Jill Lang deliver a presentation on teas from Japan, Nepal and China that catered to everyone, from serious tea afficionados to those starting out on the tea adventure.
All the teas presented are available at Lang’s Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse in Central Park Square to purchase or to enjoy on-site. They are:
Silver Needle: a white tea from the foothills of Mount Kanchanjangha, Eastern Nepal
Kukicha: a green tea from the Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan
Anxi Tie Guan Yin: a wulong tea from the Fujian Province in China
Monsoon Black: a black tea golden tips from the Solukhumbu District of Nepal
Pu Er Shou: pu er tea from the Yongde region of Yunnan Province in China
Chai: black tea with cardamon, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg served with dairy milk and sugar
Each tea and the accompanying small bites were served by employees and volunteers from the Senior Activities center, the Los Alamos Teen Center and Samizdat.
