  • 7/12 Friday Night Market – Ashley Pond Park and Central Ave, 5 – 9 pm
    • This open-air, family-friendly night market will take place congruent to the Friday Night concert. Featuring an eclectic mix of food and beverages, merchandise, small handmade goods, and jewelry for sale. Peruse the booths while enjoying live music from the concert!
  • 7/13 Discovery Day – Ashley Pond & Fuller Lodge and Lawn, 9 am – 2 pm
    • One of our main events during the course of ScienceFest.  Hands-on discoveries await at the many booths represented by a variety of STEM partners.
    • Starting at noon, our beer garden and band will open. Surrounded by many vendors and partners with informational booths, this will be a highlight of the afternoon. 
  • 7/13 Discovery After Dark: STEAM for Adults, Various Locations, 4-9 pm
    • Come out to Central Park Square Businesses, LA Teen Center, SALA, and various other locations to play like a kid again! Math games, engineering activities, science experiments, beer, trivia. It’s all here​
    • Los Alamos Teen Center
      • Learn about the science of murder! Pull out your detective glasses and try to solve ​this crime using STEAM-inspired clues. 
    • SALA
      • Explore and play in the world of Augmented and Virtual Realities.
    • Mesa Top Games and Toys
      • Get your friends together to beat this challenging escape room together! 
    • Samizdat Book Store and Tea House
      • Enjoy boba and tea for sale ​while playing board games! 
    • BathTub Row Brewing Coop
      • Los Alamos Arts Council will spearhead fun STEAM art challenges!
      • Participants can enjoy 1$​ off of their first beer by showing their completed artwork.
    • Dark Night Star Party 8:30 – 11 pm @ Overlook Park
      • Spend the evening with the Pajarito Astronomers Club gazing at the stunning July night sky. While they will have some telescopes available, you are welcome to bring your own. Red flashlights are recommended for safety.
      • This event is contingent on the weather.​​
  • 7/14 Beyond the Realms of Possibility, SALA Event Center, 3-6 pm
    • Artist Performance & Discussion
    • Film Screenings and Director-led Q&A
  • 7/16 Tuesdays at the Square Closing Party, 6-8 pm
    • Heather and the Bad Breaks will close out our ScienceFest series.
    • Enjoy live music, a beer garden, and fun STEAM activities at the Central Park Square Lawn!​

Watch the inspiring film “Hidden Figures” while enjoying drinks from Pajarito Brewpub. It’s a great evening to relax, watch a great movie, and enjoy some delicious drinks. Don’t miss it! The movie starts at 7 PM, doors open, and  a selection of brews, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages will be on sale at 6:30 PM. Bring a picnic dinner, have some drinks, and enjoy hanging out before the movie. Please register in advance.

    • Be part of a critical conversation featuring a diverse panel of experts, including seasoned investors and visionary founders, who will delve into the hurdles and opportunities of stewarding breakthrough technologies into market-ready products essential for providing greener energy solutions. ​Together, they will shed light on the essential steps and support needed to transition breakthrough research into products crucial for a more sustainable future.
    • Speakers:
      • Ward Hendon, a climate investor committed to creating a more sustainable and resilient future for both people and the planet, who will moderate the discussion on challenges and demands in the clean energy landscape.
      • Luis Chavez, recent founder of Hydrosonics, and Hunter McDaniel, CEO of UbiQD, will share their insights and experiences in turning Los Alamos innovations into sustainable energy solutions. Both are recent winners of the New Mexico Advanced Energy Awards.

Very Large Array Radio Telescope: the Science and Next Phase, SALA

This event will feature a public lecture and Q&A by Dr. Henning on the Very Large Array Radio Telescope, followed by a showing of the 1997 film Contact.

6-7 pm – Lecture – Dr. Patricia Henning is the lead of operations of the National Science Foundation’s Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), the continent-wide Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), and the Domenici Science Operations Center in Socorro.

Prepare for an evening of wonder with New Mexico Poet Laureate Lauren Camp! Join us for an enchanting blend of poetry and a captivating planetarium show, featuring a stunning visual display of planets, stars, and celestial marvels. This event is part of the series offered by PEEC to celebrate ScienceFest 2024, powered by Los Alamos Mainstreet. Tickets are limited, so we recommend securing yours in advance for this unique event. Admission: $10

Geology of Northern New Mexico Panel Discussion and Film Showing, SALA

This event will feature a panel discussion and Q&A led by Dr. Nelia Dunbar on the geology of Northern New Mexico followed by a showing of the 1997 film Contact.

6-7 pm – Panel Discussion – Dr. Nelia Dunbar leads a discussion on the geology, ecology and archaeology of the Jemez Mountain Range, including the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Driving tour and hike in the Valles Caldera led by Dr. Nelia Dunbar

This event will feature a guided driving tour of the Jemez Valley led by Dr. Nelia Dunbar with several guided hikes in the Valles Caldera before wrapping up in Jemez Springs.

8 am – Meet at the Overlook Park – An overview of the tour will be given and then we’ll head to Valles Caldera. Breakfast will be provided. Registration is required and will open on July 5th. The tour is free but limited to 36 participants.​​​​

​Very Large Array Photography Exhibit

July 9th, 2024 – January 10th, 2025

CB Fox Windows, 1735 Central Avenue, Los Alamos

This exhibition features night sky photography by Bettymaya Foott and information about the next stage of development for the Very Large Array.  This exhibit is presented as a collaboration between Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District, the New Mexico Consortium, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory with support from Zia Credit Union.
