LAPS NEWS RELEASE
Construction of the new elementary schools in White Rock is progressing. Structures are taking shape at Piñon Elementary School, and crews have been moving dirt and installing infrastructure at Chamisa Elementary School.
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) would like to make the public aware of additional work over the next several weeks that will impact the community:
- A large section of the Chamisa Elementary School playground will be closed during the summer due to pre-construction occurring in this area. Sections of the playground will reopen once the new school year begins.
- The trail west of Piñon Elementary School will be temporarily closed starting at the end of June for 2-3 weeks due to construction occurring in close proximity to this area.
Both LAPS and Jayne’s Construction thank the public for their patience and understanding during this phase of the project.
Construction of the new Piñon Elementary School began in early August. The new school should be ready for occupancy by the end of 2024.
Construction of the new Chamisa Elementary School began in March, with the new school slated to be completed by August 2025.
