Attendees at the June 11 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos were treated to an interesting and informative presentation by Inez Leibman, Executive Director of Mesa to Mesa (MTM), a non-profit organization located in Espanola and serving low-income homeowners in surrounding communities.
Calling themselves “Home Repair from the Heart”, their mission is “to bring people together to
improve the health, safety and security of low-income homeowners in Northern New Mexico by performing minor repairs to their homes, facilitating larger repairs by means of referrals and collaborations, and providing home maintenance education”.
Originally established in 2015 under the name Somos Amigos, MTM operates out of their office
in the Beatrice Martinez Senior Center in Espanola. They hire local contractors and also utilize volunteers, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. MTM receives funding from Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, foundations, state government, private donors, LANL Employee Giving, N3B, and regional businesses.
By partnering with several organizations such as Self-Help Los Alamos, Habitat for Humanity, Governor’s Commission on Disability, and health care providers, MTM is able to provide home modifications and repairs. These include ramps, bathroom modifications, minor electrical and plumbing, window and door replacement, yard clean-up, heating repair and installation, flooring, minor roof repairs, and much more.
Leibman said that the organization is always looking for volunteers and part-time contractors. If
you are interested in helping out, contact her at inez@mesatomesa.org. Their website is
