COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The Los Alamos Public Library will host an afternoon talk with award-winning author, Lesley Poling-Kempes, on Saturday, June 22, from 3:00 to 4:30pm at Mesa Public Library.
Lesley’s work in fiction and non-fiction expresses her love of the Southwest. Her work has won
many awards, including The Southwest Book Award, the WILLA Awards for both Scholarly Nonfiction and Contemporary Fiction, the Zia Award for Excellence, and the Harris Prize from the New Mexico Book Association, among others.
“The Harvey Girls,” researched and written by Lesley in the 1980s, launched her career into the history and lives of the women of the Southwest. She has since written several titles, all deeply researched and considered the definitive resources for those interested in the topic. As her work spans several decades, Lesley can speak to the evolving research and access for historians and writers. She will be available for questions about her many past publications and offer insight into her current and ongoing projects.
“Ladies of the Canyon,” “Bone Horses: A Novel,” “Canyon of Remembering,” and “The Harvey Girls,” along with many more of her works, are all available from the Los Alamos Public Library in our Southwest collection. Copies of her titles are available in person at the library branches and digital copies are available at LosAlamosLibrary.org.
All are invited to this open and free event at the Los Alamos Public Library. More information
about the event and about Lesley Poling-Kempes can be found at LosAlamosLibrary.org
