Congratulations to class of 2024 Senior Matthew Nowell!
Matthew’s most important things learned in high school: Always remember you are capable, always take the high road, always learn to laugh, always get back up, always stay away from stupid, and most importantly always put trust in God.
In the fall, Matthew will be attending New Mexico State University (NMSU) to pursue a dual degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Throughout high school, Matthew has been an active member of the Los Alamos Young Guns coached by Mike O’Neill, who continuously reminds Matthew to always remember that he is capable.
He has been competing in Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays since 2019. Matthew also had the honor of participating in the Junior Olympic National Match at Hillsdale in 2023 and the 2024 USA Olympic Trials in Tucson, AZ.
Matthew is looking forward to continuing his shooting journey with the NMSU Aggie Trap and Skeet Club and pursuing a spot on the Junior Olympics Shooting team.
Matthew’s favorite days were spent supporting the Los Alamos High School Shop class. He enjoyed teaching automotive labs and welding during his Junior and Senior year. The best life’s lessons come out of the shop with Mr. Pomroy and Mr. Church reminding Matthew daily to always take the high road and learn to laugh and to aim for a fist full of fifties and a life without fear – as well as whole lot more.
Matthew has grown in faith through the Los Alamos Young Life program. He will never forget all the skits, shenanigans, messy stunts, and friendships that Ryan Gilbert and the other YL leaders has enabled him to experience. Most importantly he leaves for college ready to conquer the world knowing he can and will always put trust in God.
When Matthew is not shooting or working on his truck he can be found in the mountains camping or snowboarding with his best buddies reminding each other to stay away from stupid.
Matthew has been snowboarding since he was five, he loves teaching the next generation of boarders as a Pajarito instructor where he made sure to pass along the importance of always getting back up.
It takes a village!!! Anna and Jeremy Nowell want to thank the village of family, friends, and teachers that have helped us to make our Matthew the person he is today.
We are so proud of Matthew and can’t wait to see what’s next for him!
