LOS ALAMOS CHORAL SOCIETY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos Choral Society Musical and Artistic Director, Mary Badarak, shares her thoughts about the upcoming Bouquet Of Love Songs concert at the United Church Sanctuary:

“Spring is the season of flowers and love, and Los Alamos Choral Society is embracing these themes in our upcoming concert on Sunday, May 19.

The concert will open with the rhetorical question, “How Can I Keep From Singing,” an American Folk hymn arranged by Ronald Staheli. The song reminds us, “the peace from love makes fresh my heart, a song of hope is springing,” and the tone for the remainder of the concert is set.

Other lovely pieces include two arranged by LACS director Mary Badarak, including “The Ash Grove,” and her poignant, “Let EveningCome,” a favorite of the choir.

Two songs celebrating love and flowers come by way of another local composer, Frances Meier. Meier’s upbeat arrangement of the familiar Shaker tune, “Simple Gifts,” inspires, as does her musical portrait of a familiar sight to local hikers, the “Pasque Flower in April.” The text of “Pasque Flower” was written by Los Alamos poet Becky Nystrom.

Two broadway show tunes usher in love’s beginnings: “Almost Like Being In Love” and “On The
Street Where You Live”. “Set Me As A Seal” shares the finality of total commitment.

Please join us on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church Sanctuary. Following the
concert, we will share refreshments in the foyer.

We are making plans for our 2024-2025 season. Choral Society Fall/Winter concert will present a program of wonderful music that shouldn’t be missed! We invite you to join us in the chorus. We rehearse Tuesdays 7-9:00 p.m. at the United Church; the first rehearsal will be in early September.
