Unitarian Church To Host Sunday Forum May 12 On ‘Border Asylum Seekers – The Experience Of Silver City, NM And Beyond’

UNITARIAN CHURCH NEWS RELEASE

For years, the challenges and tragedies at America’s southern border have been unfolding in
complicated ways. At a public forum this Sunday, May 12, our community gets to hear firsthand what people of multiple faiths in Silver City, NM have experienced as they’ve assisted nearby asylum-seekers. COVID, politics, the courts, and more are all parts of the story. The 45+ min. forum is at 11:45 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, 1738 Sage Loop.

The speaker, Barbara Gabioud, will summarize this roller-coaster experience and answer questions. She’ll also explain how this project has mobilized her county, expanded her UU
Fellowship, and led to over 600 online supporters. Since first contacting Barbara in 2021, multiple Los Alamos congregations have been annually collecting items and money for the shelter in Deming, NM.
