Please Continue To Look Twice For Motorcycles During Motorcycle Awareness Month And Always

BY RICHARD STURGEON
Chair of Los Alamos National Lab’s Motorcycle Safety Committee
President of the local Jemez Riders Riding Club

I’d like to congratulate New Mexico as the only state in America that can boast every county having come together to declare May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.  Actually, it’s the 4th year in a row that we’ve authored these proclamations and the counties have enthusiastically come through for the motorcycle riding community.

Admirably, 2024 marks the 9th year in a row that the Los Alamos County Council has signed these declarations.  And, the state’s Department of Transportation first used these proclamations as an ongoing safety initiative in order to post motorcycle safety messages on electronic billboards on highways throughout New Mexico.

There are so many motorcyclists here in Los Alamos.  We are your friends and neighbors, your coworkers and businesses patrons.  We perform community services, we participate in parades, create activity books for kids and pick up trash not only in our Adopt-A-Hwy areas, but around other parts of Los Alamos as well.

We just want to say thanks to all of you who aren’t allowing yourselves to be distracted by phones or eating or whatever while you’re driving.  And most importantly, at least to us, to continue to Look Twice for Motorcycles.
