Supreme Court Law Library Assists With Legal Fair Saturday In Española

SUPREME COURT NEWS RELEASE

People with a civil or family law issue can receive free assistance at a legal fair on Saturday, April 27.

The event is at the Northern New Mexico College campus in Española from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The New Mexico Supreme Court Law Library is assisting with the legal fair sponsored by the First Judicial District Pro Bono Committee and the Volunteer Attorney Program of New Mexico Legal Aid.

Walk-ins are welcome, and pre-registration is not necessary for this event.  Members of the public will be assisted on a first-come, first served basis. Attendees will receive a free in-person consultation with volunteer attorneys who will offer help on legal subjects including divorce, custody and support, landlord/tenant, consumer debt, guardianship, employment, wills and probate, and contracts.

“All of the organizers are excited about this event, as are staff at the Law Library,” said State Law Librarian Stephanie Wilson. “We are extremely grateful to have the support of Chief Justice David Thomson and the Supreme Court to become involved with the legal fair and provide assistance to Legal Aid, the Pro Bono Committee, and the wonderful attorneys volunteering their time.”

Law Library staff has helped with organizing the event and will be attending to provide information about library services and legal resources and to support the volunteer attorneys. This is the first in-person legal fair to be held in Rio Arriba County since the COVID-19 outbreak.
