Get ready for an exciting week of science this summer in Los Alamos! Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District is eager to bring the 17th annual ScienceFest to the community and region on July 12-16, 2024.
ScienceFest kicks off on the evening of July 12 with the weekly Summer Concert Series at Ashley Park Pond and the debut of the Night Market. Headlining the Friday Night Concert is Led Zepagain, a world-famous tribute band with over 30 years of experience portraying the legendary band, Led Zeppelin. The Night Market promises to be a delightful addition to the ScienceFest lineup for 2024. This event is designed as a small-scale street market where vendors will be selling modest-priced goods as well as food and beverage items. Take a break from the concert and stroll over to the Night Market to peruse the booths and grab a delicious snack. Just a few steps more, and enjoy the SciArt Santa Fe exhibition, Into the Realms of Possibility at Fuller Lodge Art Gallery on view from June 28 – July 27.
The ever-popular Discovery Day will be held from 9 am-2 pm on July 13 at Ashley Pond Park and Fuller Lodge and Lawn. As visitors have become accustomed to in years past, Discovery Day will offer quality, hands-on STEM demonstrations by local and regional museums, businesses, and organizations and is particularly geared to families. Don’t miss piloting drones in the Drone Zone, battling robots, building and racing solar cars, viewing the Electric Vehicle Show, and more! Food vendors will be on-site for a midday bite to eat. Beginning at noon, enjoy the beer garden and live band and visit one of the many food vendors.
In the evening, the activities will switch gears to the adult demographic when Discovery After Dark: STEAM for Adults takes place from 4-8 pm. Play like a kid again by experimenting, and learning something new in an inviting atmosphere. Activities will take place at various locations, including many local businesses and community hubs in downtown Los Alamos. Teams and individuals will have the opportunity to win prizes by participating at each location. Be sure not to miss “Serial Killer Science” at the Teen Center and experimenting with fractals and playing in augmented and virtual realities at SALA. Close out the evening with the Pajarito Astronomers Club and attend the Dark Sky Party. Not long after sunset, a special peek-a-boo event with Spica and our moon gets underway. Observe and learn more about this and other objects in the summer night sky.
The fun continues on Sunday and Monday, as well as later in the week, with multiple partner events. Visit the website below for a full schedule of events.
ScienceFest officially closes on Tuesday, July 16 at the weekly Tuesdays @The Square concert series where local favorite, Heather and the Bad Breaks will rock Central Park Square and STEAM activities abound from 6-8 pm.
