COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos Public Library is delighted to host Lauren Camp, New Mexico Poet Laureate, for an afternoon of reading and discussion about finding one’s place, heritage, and perspective through writing. As part of the library’s celebrations of both National Poetry Month and Arab American History Month, Camp will be at Mesa Public Library on Saturday, April 20, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

Lauren Camp’s foray into poetry came as an unexpected detour in her life. As an artist, she
brought her experience in self-expression to her poetry. Camp’s several volumes of poetry
explore her personal journey, her family’s history as immigrants, and the environment of New
Mexico. She was chosen as the Grand Canyon National Park’s first poet to occupy their position
of Astronomer in Residence where she produced two volumes of poetry about the night skies,
including the newly-released “In Old Sky.”

The library is also sharing copies of a coloring book “Imagine Nature,” produced by the New
Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. In this book, lines of Camp’s poetry about New Mexico
has offered the inspiration for illustrations by fifteen artists from around the state. Copies are
available at both libraries and more will be available at Camp’s reading on April 20.

This event is free and open to the public. For information about the event or for more
