DAR NEWS RELEASE

Members of the Valle Grande Chapter attended the 103rd State Conference of the Daughters of the American Revolution late last month. As part of their participation, the Chapter assembles a basket each year for silent auction in support of the State Regent, Eleanor Ortiz’s project.

This year, the Chapter’s theme was “Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project”. The basket included several books on the Manhattan Project along with “American Prometheus”, biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, and the movie script for the Oscar studded film “Oppenheimer” including the signatures of the cast on the front cover.

The basket raised more than$250 for the New Mexico State Regent’s project. Eleanor is raising funds towards installing a plaque at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe to list in recognition of every soldier who, while stationed there, served in the American Revolution. Their names will be listed on the plaque.

As a volunteer organization, we are committed to preserve our Nation’s history. This
provides a double dose. As such, we are pleased to promote the history of Los Alamos’
crowning achievement in this nation’s history.
